SusPort Project: Seaports cooperate cross-border for environmental sustainability

“SUStainable PORTs”, or SusPort for short, is a project among ports along the Adriatic coast to enhance their environmental sustainability, decarbonisation and energy efficiency in the Eusair Area – from Trieste to Bari, from Rijeka to Dubrovnik. It is a strategic project of the Italy-Croatia CBC Programme within the European Union’s “Interreg V-A” programme and will be completed by this June.

Automation Technologies in Logistics Services: The Case of Automated Vehicle Fleets

Global and urban freight transport and logistics have become significantly important for economies and societies, on urban level as well as globally. Towards sustainable development, European cities therefore need a development strategy for intelligent transportation systems. Several projects are already in place, aiming at the deployment of automated and cleaner logistics service solutions:

Automated Vehicle (AV) fleets is an example of such a solution for first/last mile delivery and for the distribution of specific loads throughout agglomerations. The intention is to deliver passengers and goods by a fleet of automated vehicles, using “mix and match” schemes. Within a number of research and innovation projects, as the automated “logistics as a service” concepts are being modelled, developed and verified through demonstration cases in specified scenarios. Here, we present “SHOW” and “Augmented CCAM” as project examples.

OPEN ENLOCC FOSTERING REGIONAL COLLABORATIVE LOGISTICS

The different elements making up the logistic system, being part of a remarkably competitive context, are permanently subjected to strong pressure towards optimising performances primarily for the key goal of maximising profits. Moreover, ever-growing concerns about environmental sustainability are also pushing the quest for cost-efficient and less impacting solutions. On these bases, it could seem that there should be no room for further major gains in efficiency, except for those directly resulting from big investments in infrastructure realisation and advanced technological innovation.

Connecting regions, communities and economies through clean and smart transportation: The scandria alliance

The Scandria®Alliance is a cooperation platform for cities and regions between Scandinavia and the Adriatic Sea. The members of the Alliance aim to strengthen the shortest geographical connection between Scandinavia and the Adriatic as a regional development and transport axis. To this end, they work together on climate-smart, multimodal transport connectivity, so it can function as an interface to sustainable regional development.

European Review of Regional Logistics – Issue 2023/01

The Issue 2023/01 has been published. The title “Resilience technology for sustainable logistics” is not a case. Climate changes are generating several problems to the logistics sector, and it makes more difficult the achievement of green targets. On the one side the warehouses and on the other side the transport network are facing problems related to the floods, wind, fire and at the same time they have to be greener and technologically equipped. Moreover, the Ukraine crisis is increasing operational costs putting the transport sector in difficulties.

Turku University: Emission data to support logistics decision-making

Reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions is a timely concern for companies across the globe. Turku School of Economics collaborates with Wiima Logistics Oy to study and develop emission calculation practices now and in the future. Turku School of Economics as well as Open ENLoCC member Centre for Maritime Studies are part of Turku University in Turku (Finland).

During the last couple of years, the world has witnessed incidents of disruptions that affected many aspects of everyday life and economy. Freight transportation, being a major pillar and an extrovert sector of the dominant globalized world economy, could not escape the direct and indirect impacts caused by several of these disruptions. In many cases, the disruptions have tested/are testing the limits of networks and supply chains, creating problems to the smooth operation of markets & the industry within EU and the rest of the world.

POLO INOLTRA: New member of Open ENLoCC

CONS. INOLTRA A R.L. – POLO INOLTRA is a cluster for innovation in logistics and transport system in the Abruzzo region of central Italy, located around the Adriatic town of Pescara.

The pole is a consortium with over 60 members, which add up to over 3,700 employees and around 300 million in turnover. They found the opportunity to collaborate in a very important sector because it provides essential services to all economic sectors, and which expresses an intrinsic need for integration.
